I redid it, this time in 3d Studio Max 8! with mental ray rendering. i hope you like it!

It looks very nice, the simplicity is stunning. But in full view I noticed that it looks like it doesn't even touch the ground... (maybe it's me) and I think that if you really want some simplicity, you should color the ball white or gray or something, but maybe that would remove the charm of it... (don't get me wrong, it is still a very good picture, but you wanted suggestions/tips, so here you have it
